Support for the Runners of Clifton

running health
For all of its great health benefits, running is rough on the spine. Our bodies were built to sustain an active lifestyle that includes heavy exertion and a lot of running. As with all systems of the body, the structures that support the body during a run are exposed to repetitive trauma that slowly wears down the joints, discs and tissues of the back. At Associates in Chiropractic, we use chiropractic treatment to fix misalignments in the runner’s spines and prevent against injuries such as disc herniation and degenerative disc disease. These are conditions that could exist without you knowing, until your running has worsened them to a point of crippling pain.

Running is a jarring sport: a repetitive mix of stress and impact to joints whose cartilage can only withstand so much. At Associates in Chiropractic, we evaluate the bones and connective tissue of the spine to identify potential trigger points. Our goal is to ensure that no part of your body falls by the wayside during aerobic exercise.

At our office in Clifton, we begin with a conversation to determine your personal health goals, and help you find ways to protect your spine while running.

  • Alternating between surfaces is helpful, because pavement creates the most shock to the spine.
  • Changing your running shoes every few hundred miles is a financial burden, but it is worth taking seriously if you are a serious runner.
  • Running posture helps prevent a forward tilt of the pelvis which can destabilize the lower spine.

Our role becomes more hands-on if you are feeling sore or stiff after your runs. Call our officeat (201) 342-6111 to schedule an appointment and find out how we can optimize your running routine together.
