Ultrasound

Ultrasound is most commonly associated with pregnancy, due to its ability to use sound waves to construct images of the inside of the body. At Associates in Chiropractic, we use ultrasound to treat achy backs and acute injuries. It is a diverse tool that speeds up the process of soft tissue healing by creating heat deep in the affected area. The high-frequency sound waves (in excess of the human hearing range) cause vibration of tissues in the affected area resulting in heat production, as deep as 5 inches below the skin. Blood flow increases, bringing crucial nutrients and oxygen to the healing process. This vibration also stimulates the production of collagen, the main protein that is responsible for the strength of tissue. As a part of your rehabilitation plan, we use ultrasound to reduce swelling and inflammation, repair damaged cells and relieve pain accrued from acute injuries.

Ultrasound is an important piece of our approach to holistic treatment: the ultrasound treatment we offer is used in conjunction with chiropractic treatment and stretching. It may be that your injury or condition will respond most effectively to spinal adjustment and massage after ultrasound treatment is performed. It is an effective, gentle and painless way to treat deep-lingering pain in affected areas. We use a conductive gel, and then apply the ultrasound conduction device to the affected area for a standard treatment time of 3-5 minutes. Ultrasound is just one tool that we offer in support of your musculoskeletal health.
