Simple Ways to Move

If serial immobility is putting a drag on your health, instituting simple changes is the most immediate way to start healing yourself. Simply adding in 30 minutes of walking a day can start a snowball effect of healthful improvement for the joints, muscles and structures of your back. And these minutes can be reclaimed from habits that you may not even be aware of:

Consider the idea of finding the nearest possible parking space for every little shopping trip. By choosing to purposefully park further away, you can add in up to 5 minutes of walking.

Getting a step counter is a fun and rewarding way to encourage more walking. By having an immediate visual response, your brain learns to crave the higher numbers generated by more steps.

Choose simple human labor over automated or paid labor. Give the roomba a break and vaccuum, or mow the lawn by yourself rather than paying for it to be done. The serenity that comes from cleaning and organizing gives your brain a needed boost while simultaneously getting you moving. Just be aware of posture while pulling weeds so you don’t do damage to your back.

Walking helps with weight management and joint mobility, but the benefits do not stop there: once you experience how great your back can feel from regular walking and exercising, we believe you will take the onus upon yourself to let movement back into your life.

Turning back the tide against an inactive lifestyle may seem daunting, but together we can do it! Perhaps your body or your mind is holding you back; if either is the case, we have ways to heal the body and encourage the mind.
