Anterior Pelvic Tilt

Anterior Pelvic Tilt is a problem that overlaps with poor posture and its prevalence is increasing. It is easy to tell if you have APT, as there are certain visual cues to look for:

  • Increased lower back curve
  • A forward tilted pelvis
  • A protruding abdomen

With this positioning, hip flexors are usually shortened and stiff while hip extensors are lengthened, and there is usually an accompanying lack of abdominal and glute strength. APT is common and as it gets more pronounced with age, so do the problems associated with it: lower back pain, poor posture, and musculoskeletal dysfunction. For gym-bodies, this can be especially problematic as it can cause difficulty with deadlifting and the squat.

At Associates in Chiropractic, we employ a multi-dimensional approach to correcting anterior pelvic tilt:

  • Posterior pelvic tilt stretching
  • Hip flexor and lower back stretching
  • Abdomen and glute strengthening
  • Correcting and teaching posture
  • Chiropractic adjustment

There is no point in letting anterior pelvic tilt be the defining posture of your lifestyle. Give our office in Hackensack a call to discover how we can help you institue a regimen that will correct posterior pelvic tilt and how, with enough proactivity on your part, you can rediscover great posture and prevent back pain.
