Taking Preventive Action to Avoid Osteoporosis

chiropractor clifton

Don't let osteoporosis become a part of your life

This condition has no outward symptoms- osteoporosis doesn't hurt. But the broken bones it causes do hurt, and they can have far-reaching impacts on your life. Osteoporosis is a condition perennially associated with old age, but this dated narrative leaves out the fact that it can affect younger demographics as well. At some point in our 30s, all of us begin losing bone mineral density. From this point forward, your bones are effectively becoming weaker. The only thing you can do for them is take preventive action in the way of diet and exercise.

Osteoporosis in the spine

Your spine is as good a region to focus on as any as an osteoporosis battleground. As your vertebrae lose density and strength, they become more susceptible to compression fractures; these fractures can alter the shape of your spine, limit your range of motion, cause chronic pain and quicken spinal degeneration.

Your actions define your osteoporosis

In other words, you don't have to accept this condition as an inevitable part of aging. And you don't have to wait to break a bone before you do something to prevent it. A balanced diet that includes the RDAs of calcium (and magnesium for calcium absorption), and vitamin D is crucial for bone health. Regular movement strengthens bones and exercise that focuses on gently improving strength can help the muscles that support your weakening bones. You can seriously slow down the rate of bone mineral loss by taking these actions. We want to help you develop a plan to keep osteoporosis at bay- give our office in Clifton a call to schedule an appointment today.
