Weight Watchers Unite: the Holiday Season is Your Time to Shine

Chiropractor hackensack

Going overboard: a typical holiday story

You are couchlocked after a night of overeating; you couldn't refuse a single bite and family members kept pushing pie down your throat. Well now look at you, sprawled and guilt-ridden; it's not even Christmas eve yet. This is a typical dilemma that many of us face: the holiday season is one of over-indulgence and restricting yourself is simply no fun. And while it is important to watch your consumption of both overly-fatty holiday foods and booze, there is something to be said for adjusting your expectations

At Associates in Chiropractic, we know some things about the holiday season: people work out less and eat more.

This is the cardinal recipe for weight gain, and it tends to cause anxiety for many a person who has been tip-toeing around the weight-loss game the entire year. So here are some tips for the holiday season that will help allay anxiety:

  • Don't guilt trip yourself: you are likely not going to blow up like a balloon just because of a few nights of irresponsible eating. Indulge yourself to a reasonable extreme, knowing that you have plenty of time to shed the pounds.
  • Don't skip meals in anticipation of the next: this is a scientifically proven way of gorging and gaining weight, even if it doesn't feel like it.
  • Strengthen your core in sneaky ways: pull your belly button in toward your spine and hold for as long as you can, as often as you can.
  • Drink responsibly: chances are you don't need that last brandy-eggnog. It's certainly not going to help you feel any less bloated. Drinking responsibly is just as important for maintaining your weight as it is for maintaining your dignity.

Come see your chiropractor after Christmas

The holiday season wreaks havoc with many people's bodies. The time spent on the couch, around the dinner table and sleeping off all the booze and food is doing your body no favors. But like we said, don't guilt trip yourself; and after christmas, give our office a call to schedule an appointment. We can help you restore body balance and get you back on track with your fitness goals. Happy holidays Hackensack!
