Swimming

If you are looking for a great way to lose weight this summer, we suggest finding your nearest lake, shoreline or pool and getting wet for an hour! From a chiropractor's perspective, swmming is at the top our of list for healthy aeorbic exercise because it helps you shed weight and build muscles without dealing damage to the joints. Here are a few reasons to get wet, starting today:

Swimming is a whole body experience: the water provides you with natural resistance that builds and tones muscle. You are exercising every part of your body without noticing the fatigue that comes with running: just one hour of vigorous swimming can burn up to 500 calories.

Being buoyant is good for the mind: just step into the water and float for a second. Feel all that tension lifting? This is gravity saying goodbye for a few minutes, and it is as good for your body as it feels. Studies show that being in the water can improve mood in both men and women.

Breathe better: swmming forces your respiratory system to work harder. Because water is denser than air, your body must work harder to capture and supply oxygen to the body. As you swim more, your body gets used to this elevated work rate and your breathing improves.

What feels better than taking a cool dip on a hot day? It surely can't hurt to optimize your well-being while you're at it! For more tips on making this summer your healthiest yet, give our office in Hackensack a call.
